BY DIVINE RIGHT launch a new video for the sun drenched tune “Zoomies” from “Organized Accidents” (BUY HERE).

The third video in a trilogy of work by Australian-born director Benjamin Portas, the visuals shimmer and flicker with vibrant washes of colour like summer sun bouncing off cottage windows reflecting the tune’s musical exploration of ambience and deconstruction. Portas used heavily treated pinhole footage collected in fields in Canada and Australia. Goerdie Dynes (drummer) also made a road video for Zoomies HERE.

DOOMSQUAD release a hypnotic new video for “Eternal Return” from EP and upcoming full-length debut. Director Steve Reaume created the video “using his own algorithm that visually interprets the song mathematically. This results in a unique formation of blurred, grainy lines, slowly moving in kaleidoscope vision, triggering swift, paralyzing light as they begin to form more detailed objects ~ find yourself lost between their spiritual forces and a wicked video that matches the vibe perfectly.” – Portals

DOOMSQUAD, the mysterious Toronto/Montreal-based sibling trio, have been crafting eerie electronica for several years, and recently signed to Hand Drawn Dracula in order to spread their tunes to parts unknown.

To celebrate their new signing, we met with them in their basement, which conveniently doubles as a studio, for a performance of “Oovo,” off their as-yet-unannounced debut LP, tentatively titled Kalaboogie. The haunting track features chilling harmonies, a pulsing electronic beat, and a recorder solo.” ~ Exclaim

BELIEFS invited AUX into their Candle Recording on a sweltering day in early summer to capture this live studio performance of “Long Wings”, which appears on a limited Bekiefs / GREYS‘ 7″.

Beliefs and Greys release the Long Wings/Dodgson FREE 7″ and play with Tangiers, Dusted, Doom Squad, Breeze, & Cousins on Saturday June 15 @ the Hand Drawn Dracula NXNE showcase.

Welcome DOOMSQUAD

Hand Drawn Dracula welcomes DOOMSQUAD to the roster and we look forward to helping develop the project from the 3 song bandcamp demos into EPs and full length albums scheduled for later this year.

Dark new agers DOOMSQUAD re-code the electronic music narrative with a more worldly and cosmological presence than the genre would normally dictate. The Montreal and Toronto-based siblings Allie, Jaclyn and Trevor Blumas act as aural anthropologists, teaming relics of cross cultural traditions like chanting and repetition over seismic ripples of deep bass. Doomsquad’s mixing of influences leaves you feeling awakened. 😉

“strip away Slowdive’s lush glaze, and you may be left with “Zoomies” which glows with very early-’90s shoegaze and dream pop ~ might be what results if Yo La Tengo dunked Sonic Youth’s “Little Trouble Girl” in one of the Hoboken trio’s documentary-scoring seascapes.” ~ Vacouver Weekly

BELIEFS new video for “Carousel” off their self-titled debut album is Part Two in director Benjamin Portas’ HDD Video Trilogy. Part One was Dusted’s beautiful video for “Bruises”. Benjamin and Production Assistant Erica Beyea shot the video in remote Australia, taking advantage of their surroundings to craft a beautiful visual interpretation of the song.

The “dreamier” and “hazy” new clip for “Carousel” debuted on Brooklyn Vegan to coincide with the Beliefs’ Brooklyn show at Shea Stadium. Look for a European tour this fall including a few festival stops.

BELIEFS “Long Wings” / GREYS “Dodgson” 7″ | HDD025 | BUY HERE

Scion Sessions and Hand Drawn Dracula combine for a second time on an original release pairing up bands from the family canon. On the occasion of the label’s 5th anniversary, two of its most peerless recent additions take grain of salt stabs on besting one another’s sound. Beliefs’ languid shoe-ward gaze raises to an accelerated pace on “Long Wings”, informed by Greys’ breakneck clip and guttural twists. The inverse: Greys’ deliberate “Dodgson” illuminates the gentleness hidden under their sludge. Almost too perfect a collaboration for already companion bands, who evidently could blur the line between them more often.

These two brand new tracks appear on opposing sides of a limited coloured & splattered vinyl 7″, hitting the streets at Hand Drawn Dracula’s NXNE party, June 15 at The Garrison (Toronto).

Hand Drawn Dracula is excited to announce TANGIERS as our headliner for NXNE 2013!

Ten years ago, Toronto band Tangiers recorded and released their debut record “Hot New Spirits”. These life long friends recorded this document  live off the floor to tape,  thus beginning a whirlwind of chaotic live shows, critical acclaim and heavy strange wildness.  Tangiers was built with equal measure muscular intensity and lithe weirdo damaged poetry.

Blending core rock and roll, manic energy, and an outsider art soul, Tangiers predated a Toronto band explosion to come. Their unhinged energy and “locals only” city kid aesthetic came along with a rancid garbage strike and a sweltering heat wave. International recognition suggested a star on the precipice of birth, instead implosion.

It was over for this original line up in under a year.
10 years later Tangiers are reforming for a show, because playing feels good.

“Hot New Spirits is the lost gem of that time—an anxious, nervy, joyous announcement to the world. Other bands would come to define the scene and the decade, but this is what it sounded like before we knew where we were going – Top 10 Canadian albums of the decade” ~ MACLEANS

“Americas, here is your garage-rock underdog. 8.2” – PITCHFORK
