After six years of constant HOLY FUCK touring, BRIAN BORCHERDT emerged from the tangled cables and broken drum machines with a slew of new songs. Looking to explore a different sound, Borcherdt teamed with drummer Leon Taheny and recorded in a converted garage under the name DUSTED.

The resulting album, Total Dust, resides in an atmosphere that is sometimes melodic, sometimes haunting, and always clouded by a fuzzy glow. With string arrangements and half-hidden guitar feedback held together by the occasional tambourine and minimal drum machine, the stripped down mood perfectly complements a collection of songs that are more than capable of standing on their own merits. Live, Dusted challenges the sonic limitations of a two-piece. Vocals and guitar are expelled through small overblown amplifiers and bolstered by a raucous backbone of live drums, 808 samples, and bass synth.

Dusted have toured the world with Great Lake Swimmers (EU) and Perfume Genius (NA), and have performed with A Place to Bury Strangers, Smith Westerns, SHUGO TOKUMARU, of Montreal, and Deerhoof. Back home in Canada, the duo have shared the stage with friends and label mates including Fucked Up, Mac DeMarco, Cousins, BELIEFS, BRUCE PENINSULA, LITTLE GIRLS, Odonis Odonis, and Chad VanGaalen.

‘TOTAL DUST’ is available in Canada via Toronto design imprint / boutique label Hand Drawn Dracula on a limited edition run of 300 copies of 180-gram maroon-colored Vinyl and Deluxe CD packaging w/ exclusive CD bonus track, which can be ordered now from the HDD online STORE.

“haunted and Neil Young-esque rock” – STEREOGUM

The first single, “(Into The) Atmosphere”, is “a dewy lo-fi pop ramble, with sweetly multi-tracked vocals, cavernous layers of melancholy guitar strums, and galloping, off-kilter percussion.” – SPIN

“oscillating between a conversational monotone and childlike coo, bringing a refreshingly playful quality to what could be a sullen songbook” – PITCHFORK

“a great collection whose gritty grunge/pastoral sound and switches from huge vistas to acute personal detail will keep you gripped throughout. One to be listened to a lot” – THE LINE OF BEST FIT

“Spacious, patient, and resonating, these tracks sound more like they were born organically and fully-formed on a rural stretch of desert highway” – NOISEY

“Total Dust is a diverse collection, where dark, brooding numbers sit comfortably next to relatively up-beat stompers, the stark production allowing each track the space to shine” – EXCALIM!
