Little Girls began in January 2009 as the solo recording project of multi-instrumentalist Josh McIntyre who, at the time, was one-half of Toronto shoegaze duo Pirate/Rock. While Little Girls is a four-piece live experience, CULTS was performed and recorded by Josh. The music combines elements of new wave and post punk with layers of fuzz to create murky yet melodic walls of sound. Influences are drawn everywhere from both ’80s post-punk as well as hip hop production of the late J Dilla.

In less than two years, McIntyre has released five singles, two EPs and an LP, on a variety of independent labels, including Brooklyn-based Mexican Summer and Captured Tracks, and Sixteen Tambourines in Japan. Meanwhile, Little Girls has been touring as a four-piece band, completing a major North American tour in late 2009, followed by numerous forays into the U.S. and throughout Eastern Canada, including appearances at NXNE (Toronto), SXSW (Austin, TX) and CMJ (NYC).

The music combines elements of new wave and post punk with layers of fuzz to create murky yet melodic walls of sound. Influences are drawn everywhere from both ’80s post-punk as well as hip hop production of the late J Dilla.

Little Girls’ press exposure has included “Essential Tracks” honours in the Globe and Mail (Toronto) and “New Band of the Day” in the Guardian (U.K.), as well as a NOW Magazine cover and coverage in Dazed and Confused, Eye Weekly, Nylon and Fader, among many others.

MAUSOLEUM ‘(Meth) Hunters’ (BUY HERE) directed by David F. M. Hanes.

“Mausoleum is more about evoking an era, that very first tip over from punk into Goth and New Wave, than about echoing any one particular band. The Toronto trio has certainly got the frantic energy of that period – still punkishly aggressive and combative even as it flirted with the prettiness, melodrama and keyboards to come – down pat on the three curt, energetically brooding post-punk ditties collected on this set.” – THE STAR / Ben Rayner

“Not only does this song sound like it was recorded in the studio next door to Echo and the Bunnymen in 1981, the video for these Toronto new wave punks’ single catches some snippets from the era of big black hair, egyptian eyeliner, skinny ties and moshpits. Love it.” (YVYNYL)

JOSH REICHMANN ‘Wildly Waiting’ video from ‘After Live’ directed by Henry Sansom and James Mejia.

“[After Live] is all about synthetic, folkloric, body-horror-rocking strangeness — imagine 30 minutes on mushrooms with loops of Leonard Cohen’s “The Future” in one ear, electro remixes of Bauhaus’ “Bela Lugosi’s Dead” in the other and eyes glued to Bob Dylan’s Don’t Look Back on a blood-soaked screen.” – THE MONTREAL MIRROR

“After Live is a striking collection of dark, forward-thinking pop music that might just be his best work yet.” – 4/5 NOW MAGAZINE
