BELIEFS premiere “1994” video on BILLBOARD!

Directed by HDD collaborator Christopher Mills (Modest Mouse, Interpol, Vallens), “1994” is the first music video from Beliefs new album Habitat, out September 22nd 2017.

“the seductive new song does a dazzling job of setting steely, urban structures with a sensuality typically reserved for flesh and blood – If “1994’ is any indication, the new LP figures to augment the feathery, shoegazey dream pop of their past with stark, stylish post-punk.” – BILLBOARD

NAILBITER (Josh Korody of BELIEFS) new album Waveshaper, mastered by David Psutka (Egyptrixx) and Jeremy Greenspan (Junior Boys), out March 3rd via Hand Drawn Dracula.

“Nailbiter makes sludgy experimental electro with shades of industrial and a pinch of gothiness. “Smeared” is a short song with a sense of impending doom, and though the sounds are cacophonous, it is still melodious and beat-driven.” ~ SILENT SHOUT

“a moody, threatening sonic vibe” ~ EXCLAIM!

“Brand new Toronto supergroup Yi prove art rock is “Not So Dead” on this searing EP teaser – Thurston Moore once said “Teenage Riot” was about appointing J Mascis as a de facto alternative dream president; when “Not So Dead” changes direction halfway through with a searing new guitar melody, you could easily believe Mascis got a second term in office.” ~ THE LINE OF BEST FIT

“GET THERE”, an outtake from the LEAPER recording sessions, features vocals by fellow Toronto musician Jonathan Rogers (Elsa, The Seams), and describes “a road trip that feel like it will never end, running from your life and having no idea where you’re going.” ~ Jesse Crowe.

“Beliefs Share “Get There,” A Lucid Shoegazing Odyssey ~ the sensation of getting lost in a current, the kind of zoning out commonly associated with this kind of shoegaze. But the propulsion driving it is benevolent and calming” ~ FADER

Get There is a starry collaboration between them and fellow Toronto band Elsa’s Jonathan Rogers, and it makes it sound like life’s all about the journey.” ~ STEREOGUM

BELIEFS release a new video for Swooner, directed by Ivy Lovell, via UK’s CLASH magazine.

“Even 40 years on from the dawn of punk, shaving your head can still be a rebellious move. For a woman, it’s an especially profound gesture. It’s the complete removal from a capitalist hierarchy, from the monetisation of female beauty. Don’t want to partake in the endless beauty chase? Shave it all off and let the world stare.

Thankfully, director Ivy Lovell captured the process, and an oddly intimate experience – matched to the searingly truthful music of Beliefs, it’s a coruscating listen and an addictive watch” ~ CLASH

“Dream pop viewed through a prism of distortion… build up into an atmospheric and deeply unique world. New album ‘Leaper’ emerged at the tail end of last year, matching sumptuous sonics against some of the band’s most developing songwriting yet. ‘Leave With You’ is an apt introductory point for those new to the charms of Beliefs.” – CLASH

“Leaper, a fine album that blurred all distinctions between dream pop euphoria and warped shoegaze disorientation – “Colour of Your Name,” one of the record’s more concise, pop-leaning highlights” – UNDER THE RADAR

BELIEFS “Leaper” is KEXP’s SONG OF THE DAY on the Morning Show with John Richards.

“Shoegaze is alive and well with Canadian band Beliefs. It comes as no surprise that the duo of Josh Korody and Jesse Crowe were united by their love of My Bloody Valentine and Sonic Youth after intially meeting at a mutual friend’s birthday party.

On the title track of their sophomore full-length, Leaper, the band push through the shimmering washes of reverb with their guy/girl harmonies, setting off a swoon with Kevin Shields-influenced guitar effects. A spoken-word part towards the end truly calls to mind Kim Gordon in “Kool Thing.” If you’re gonna wear your influences on your sleeve, might as well have the best influences.” – KEXP

“25 years from now, when “dream pop” returns from a number of years of exile, it may very be records like Leaper that inspire the next generation of shoe-gazers.” – KCRW
