NEW! DERMABRASION share the second single, “Goblin Dance,” off their debut album Pain Behaviour, out January 26th, 2024 via Hand Drawn Dracula. A fascination with the corporeal form and the occult thread through the record. With allusions to Roman Catholicism, LaVeyan Satanism and genre fiction, the songs investigate shame, power, duty and inhabiting a human body. The album’s statement is honed to a menacing edge with a sound swinging in the directions of first wave and contemporary post-punk, industrial, and NWOBHM.

Dermabrasion’s new take on “Goblin Dance,” appearing first on their debut “Lunate” EP, smacks of Godflesh with a backhand of classic hip-hop as it oscillates between acidic highs and lows. Produced by Josh Korody (Fucked Up, Nailbiter, Beliefs) along with the rest of forthcoming full length, “Pain Behaviour,” the presence his expertise brings to the drum tracks hone the song’s haunting, lo-fi groove to a sharp and menacing edge. While audio production on the track takes a notable leap, the accompanying lyric video maintains a low-fi spirit as it cross-dissolves its way through beloved internet detritus of the last two decades.

Grammy-nominated songwriter, MICHAEL PETER OLSEN shares “Biorhythms (ft. ZOON)” the third single ahead of his album Narrative Of A Nervous System, which is out this Friday, October 27th via Hand Drawn Dracula.

For this single Michael Peter Olsen teamed up with Canadian musical artist Daniel Monkman, also known as ZOON. Combining Zoon’s “moccasin gaze” style with Olsen’s unique heavily altered electric cello sound, the song features traditional indigenous rhythms and melodic styles that blend seamlessly with Monkman’s soft-focus guitars and heavenly Beach Boys-like vocals. Olsen’s bleary-eyed cello soundscapes and impassioned melodies provide a perfect complement to Monkman’s contribution, resulting in a powerful musical collaboration that speaks to the vision of unifying our shared experiences from the perspectives of varying identities. The song also comes with a video directed by Khadija Roberts-Abdullah that captures the trials and tribulations of completing creative projects in modern times.

Narrative Of A Nervous System is the follow-up to Michael Peter Olsen’s electric cello-based full-length Yearning Flow, described as “evocative, experimental, and emotional” by American Songwriter. On his upcoming album, Olsen continues to stretch the limits of the electric cello, subverting expectations of what the instrument can be. The new album features guest performances by Owen PallettMàiri Chaimbeul, alaska B, and Zoon, and is pressed on a limited deluxe edition 180g blood red in clear vinyl with satin finish gatefold jacket.

Narrative Of A Nervous System release show will take place this Friday, October 27th at DIY furniture space Brothers Dressler in Toronto. The show will feature Owen Pallett and alaska B (Yamantaka // Sonic Titan) with projections and a special 3D surround sound system. ~ TICKETS/INFO

DERMABRASION share the first single & video for “Halberdier” off their debut album Pain Behaviour, out January 26th, 2024 via Hand Drawn Dracula. A fascination with the corporeal form and the occult thread through the record. With allusions to Roman Catholicism, LaVeyan Satanism and genre fiction, the songs investigate shame, power, duty and inhabiting a human body. Produced by Josh Korody (Fucked Up, Nailbiter, Breeze, Beliefs, Vallens), the album’s statement is honed to a menacing edge with a sound swinging in the directions of first wave and contemporary post-punk, industrial, and NWOBHM.

The video for Halberdier is a frenzied series of clips captured by members of the crowd at a generator show in Toronto’s east end this past summer. Under a single bulb’s light the band and crowd writhe among a pile of industrial dirt from more than 10 different perspectives pasted and strung together in a kaleidoscopic mess.

“An ominous cacophony of industrial-tinged post punk – a heavy, brooding gothic anthem” – GET IN HER EARS

Today composer and Grammy-nominated songwriter, MICHAEL PETER OLSEN released “Terms Of Desertion,” the second single from his upcoming album Narrative Of A Nervous System. The song is a masterful exploration of the complex emotions surrounding the end of a relationship. Using only electric cello sounds, Olsen creates a soundscape that is both cheerful and melancholic, with swelling chords and bittersweet melodies that perfectly capture the vacillating feelings of reminiscence and loss. The song comes with a dreamy visualizer of collaged footage made by Olsen himself.

Narrative Of A Nervous System, out October 27th, 2023 via Hand Drawn Dracula, is the follow-up to Michael Peter Olsen’s electric cello-based full-length Yearning Flow, described as “evocative, experimental, and emotional” by American Songwriter. PRINCE JOSH shares his final single (video directed by Austin Hutchings) called “Bring The Beat Back” from his new album Moth, released Friday August 25th via Hand Drawn Dracula. Working with award winning producer Jim Anderson (Moby, Mark Ronson, Massive Attack) and Joel Ford (Oneohtrix Point Never, Jacques Greene, Com Truise), Moth marks a stylistic shift from McIntyre’s hazy lo-fi take on dance music to a crisp three dimensional sound rooted in an early trip hop that could be found on a “Late Night Tales” compilation.

Having hit a wall trying to find material to sample he started writing full songs with the intention of ripping them apart to create something new. The idea evolved into a process of recording two separate works for each track and piecing them together into a much larger musical puzzle.

“”Bring The Beat Back” was the last track written for the album after realizing I needed a song that people could dance to,” Josh says. “I wanted to step away from some of the more house adjacent music I’d been working on in favor of a late 90’s ‘Big Beat’ sound. I wanted to make a track that could be played in both a club and a big rock festival.”

Prince Josh (Josh McIntyre) is a producer, songwriter and DJ based in Toronto Canada. He is best known as half of the electronic pop duo Prince Innocence as well as the Mexican Summer / Captured Tracks post-punk outfit Little Girls. He released his debut album The Joy (2020) to resounding critical acclaim followed by remixes and singles for Nervous Records, Kitsune and Italians Do It Better.

“Prince Josh hones a fresh sound in his upcoming album Moth – incorporates themes and aspects of different styles of music production to form a cohesive and enticing sound” – METAL MAGAZINE

“Moths go through an incredible transformation during their life, and this insect became a symbol of change and resurrection. While his distinctive dreamy and hazy sound remains present, the record marks a sound shift towards downtempo and trip-hop” – HIGHCLOUDS

“McIntyre has a way with melody… ‘Moth’ is a perfectly pleasant way to let the minutes drift by” – ELECTRONIC SOUND MAGAZINE

“With flawless production, a somber aesthetic, and intricate melodies, this album delves deep into the shadows, capturing a dark magnum opus that’ll captivate you from the very beginning” – LAST DAY DEAF

“a stylistic pivot away from his signature lo-fi, hazy dance music to a more three-dimensional and crisp sound based on early trip-hop” – EXCLAIM

BREEZE, the band headed by Toronto go-to producer and engineer Josh Korody (of BELIEFS and NAILBITER), premiere their latest single “Heart Attack Waiting To Happen” on KEXP’s The Morning Show with John Richards. The band’s latest single is a dancefloor banger and Mark Gardener’s (RIDE) favorite track on the new album. The acid-house-inspired track starts with a simple synth patch and builds into a dark electro jam improvised in the studio. The track marks the path for Breeze as a full band while capturing the euphoria, frenetic energy, and manic bliss of an indie-rock rave soundtrack. “Heart Attack Waiting To Happen” was recorded by Shae Brossard (TOPS, U.S. Girls, Titus Andronicus) and sees Julia Wittman (Ducks Ltd.) on guitar, Robyn Phillips (Vallens) on guitar and vocals, James Kearns on synth and acoustic guitar and Braeden Craig on drums.

Speaking to “Heart Attack Waiting To Happen”, Korody writes; ““Heart Attack Waiting to Happen” began with a simple synth patch and my desire to craft an acid-house inspired track, which the band built up into a dark and funky jam. James wrote the lyrics and the band arranged and finished the track at our first session in the newly built Candle location.

Breeze’s upcoming LP, SOUR GRAPES, is set for release December 8th on Hand Drawn Dracula. The new album delivers a distinctive 90s-inspired sound that explores the complexity of relationships and builds upon the brit-pop new-wave sound that garnered critical acclaim for their 2021 release, Only Up, praised by the likes of CBC Music, Pitchfork, CLASH, KEXP, NPR, Stereogum and more. MICHAEL PETER OLSEN announces new album Narrative Of A Nervous System, releasing October 27th on Hand Drawn Dracula. This is the follow-up to the composer and Grammy-nominated songwriter’s electric cello-based full-length Yearning Flow, described as “evocative, experimental, and emotional” by American Songwriter. On his upcoming album, Olsen continues to stretch the limits of the electric cello, subverting expectations of what the instrument can be.

Along with the announcement comes a single and video, “So Far So Good.” The song is a work of sound art that continues Olsen’s exploration of post-modernist styles. By skillfully blending acoustic and heavily altered electric cello sounds, Olsen creates a swirling, pointillistic landscape that conveys a sense of endlessness and forward momentum. The piece is aptly named, as it explores the idea of persisting through the uncertainties and lack of resolution that life often presents.

The accompanying animated video by digital artist Shawn Chiki celebrates the persistence and resilience of life at a cellular level through this continuous optimistic crescendo. It pays homage to mitosis and the aesthetic of multiplying cells under a microscope. Cells and colors bend, compound, and create waves that flow and evolve from micro-moments into a rainbow infinity, morphing and adapting to each other.

Narrative Of A Nervous System, with guest features from Owen Pallett, Màiri Chaimbeul, alaska B, and Zoon, is pressed on a limited deluxe edition 180g blood red in clear vinyl with satin finish gatefold jacket.

PRINCE JOSH is back with the the title track from his upcoming album Moth, set for release August 25th via Hand Drawn Dracula.

Having hit a wall trying to find material to sample, McIntyre started writing full songs with the intention of ripping them apart to create something new. The idea evolved into a process of recording two separate works for each track and piecing them together into a much larger musical puzzle. The track was written in the slow moving summer of the Arizona desert with limited resources for recording samples. Experimenting with marbles falling, a bowl filled with nails and water splashing, resulted in a score for a futuristic rave set in a desert wasteland.

“Time seemed to move slowly in the desert and I was able to focus and spend time on the tiniest of details in this track,” McIntyre explains. The song samples everything from marbles falling off a table, filling a bowl with nails and splashing water. Working entirely on my laptop I had to use the limited resources I had around me to create sounds. The end result sounds like a bad trip in a desert wasteland.”
