YOUNG GUV releases a video for “April Of My Life” from GUV III & IV. Premiering on RAVEN SINGS THE BLUES, who also named GUV III amongst their FAVORITE ALBUMS OF 2022 calling the LP “a swooning wave of lovelorn odes.”

By this time you should have been able to absorb the latest double dose of pop from Young Guv, his second such set in the last few years. Ben Cook offers up a nice look back on the inspirations and inception for Guv’s III and IV in the video for “April of My Life,” one of the more languid corners of the set. Culled from footage shot during his stints in New mexico, California, and Oaxaca Mexico, the homegrown video fits the song’s easy sway — hung on a slight tangle of strums and plaintive flute. The records are out now as single entities or as a double set from Run for Cover and Hand Drawn Dracula.” – RAVEN SINGS THE BLUES

June 24th GUV IV : Dive deeper into the world of  YOUNG GUV is gearing up to release his new album GUV IV, his second full-length album this year. Written entirely in the Sangre de Cristo mountain range of New Mexico following a cancelled tour in the spring of 2020, the songs on GUV IV range in the way that only a Young Guv record can – from Laurel Canyon jangle to British Invasion blues-pop to AM-radio Americana to the mildly sleazy electro pop on a song-by-song basis. But at its core, GUV IV is a collection of songs dedicated and testifying to the eternal healing power of love. Released June 24th via Run For Cover and Hand Drawn Dracula Records.

YOUNG GUV is gearing up to release his new album GUV IV next Friday, June 24th, via Run For Cover and Hand Drawn Dracula Records. Today he’s sharing one more early single, “Nervous Around U.”

GUV IV comes hot on the heels of Young Guv’s previous full-length, GUV III, which just came out in March. The ever-prolific musician has amassed an impressive and wide-reaching catalog over the years and GUV III and GUV IV offer the perfect entry point. Where GUV III encapsulated Cook’s most instantly accessible guitar pop songwriting, GUV IV represents the most sonically adventurous side of Young Guv–effortlessly moving between hazy, Madchester-inspired rave ups, twangy California jangle, and even homemade sophisti-pop–such as on the record’s final single, “Nervous Around U.”

The track caps off a steady run of singles — “Cry 2 Sleep,” “Change Your Mind,” and “Nowhere At All” (which drew attention from the likes of NPR, Stereogum, Paste Magazine, Uproxx, BrookylnVegan, New Commute, and many more) — and offers up a cut of shimmering ’80s-esque pop that’s sure to have you dancing by the end of it’s concise 2:16 runtime.

Today YOUNG GUV has shared the third single, “Cry 2 Sleep,” from GUV IV. The new album is due out June 24th from Run For Cover and Hand Drawn Dracula Records. The track follows “Change Your Mind” and “Nowhere At All” (which drew praise from the likes of Stereogum, Paste Magazine, Uproxx, BrookylnVegan, New Commute, and more) and sees Ben Cook combining hazy pedal steel with bubbling keyboards and his gentle harmonies to make something that spans the many different moods of Guv.

Young Guv has also announced a run of UK shows in June. Guv will be touring around his performance at Outbreak Festival, including shows with One Step Closer, Chastity, and more.

“This was the very last song written for these records in Los Angeles. Another nice co-write with James Matthew VII and Tommy Major on the lead guitar. I feel I’ve always hinted at new wave and sophistapop with the Guv project, and it’s definitely something I will be exploring much more on my next albums. Lyrics were taken from a little notebook I kept on me while in Taos – I actually had written this originally as this Tom Petty folk joint and they then were tried on a side project song for a jokey psych rock band we were calling Taosman 5 – but eventually found their home on this track. I think it’s my favorite single.”

Just last month YOUNG GUV (aka songwriter Ben Cook) released his latest masterpiece, GUV III, and today the ever-prolific musician is already back to announce its sequel, GUV IV, due out June 24th from via Run For Cover and Hand Drawn Dracula Records.

Where GUV III encapsulates Cook’s most instantly accessible guitar pop songwriting (earning praise from the likes of Stereogum, SPIN Magazine, Paste Magazine, Uproxx, and many more), GUV IV represents the most sonically adventurous side of Young Guv. Cook has an unparalleled ability to write perfect power pop but GUV IV highlights his expertise with the many other sounds and styles that have dotted Young Guv‘s expansive catalog over the years. The record effortlessly moves between hazy, Madchester-inspired rave ups, twangy California jangle, and even homemade sophisti-pop–while always retaining Cook’s undeniable melodies. GUV IV‘s lead single “Change Your Mind” blends pedal steel guitar with a nearly psychedelic mood that transports the listen to the New Mexican desert where it was written.

YOUNG GUV, aka songwriter Ben Cook (vocalist of No Warning and former guitarist of Fucked Up), recently announced his new double album, GUV III & GUV IV, with the first installment, GUV III, due out March 11th from Run For Cover and Hand Drawn Dracula Records. Today he’s shared the album’s final single “Take Up All My Time.”

Take Up All My Time” is the fifth single from GUV III (following “Good Time,” “Only Wanna See U Tonight,” “Lo Lo Lonely,” and “It’s Only Dancin’,” which have garnered attention from the likes of Stereogum, BrooklynVegan, Uproxx, Raven Sings The Blues, and more), demonstrating Cook’s seemingly endless supply of big hooks and chiming guitars. The new song leans towards Guv’s melancholy side but the shimmering guitar washes and longing harmonies will still put a smile on your face. It’s the kind of instantly gratifying songwriting that makes GUV III the perfect entry point for both new listeners and those already initiated into the wide world of Guv.

From start to finish, GUV III is full of undeniable hooks and crunchy guitars, offering the perfect entry point for both new listeners and those already initiated into the wide world of Guv. As evidenced by “Good Time” and previous singles “Only Wanna See U Tonight,” “Lo Lo Lonely,” and “It’s Only Dancin'” (which have garnered attention from the likes of Stereogum, BrooklynVegan, Uproxx, Raven Sings The Blues, and more), Cook has a distinct ability to channel years of crate-digging into Young Guv’s songs, resulting in a record that brings a fresh perspective to timeless sounds.

Like the album’s previous singles “Only Wanna See U Tonight” and “Lo Lo Lonely” (which garnered attention from the likes of Stereogum, BrooklynVegan, Uproxx, Raven Sings The Blues, and more) “It’s Only Dancin'” harnesses Cook’s deep well of influences and channels them into Young Guv’s untouchably catchy power pop machine. The song’s glistening guitars and quick tempo sound like Tom Petty on a Paul Collins kick, delivering a jolt of melody that feels timeless and distinctly Guv all at once.
