PRINCE JOSH shares his final single (video directed by Austin Hutchings) called “Bring The Beat Back” from his new album Moth, released Friday August 25th via Hand Drawn Dracula. Working with award winning producer Jim Anderson (Moby, Mark Ronson, Massive Attack) and Joel Ford (Oneohtrix Point Never, Jacques Greene, Com Truise), Moth marks a stylistic shift from McIntyre’s hazy lo-fi take on dance music to a crisp three dimensional sound rooted in an early trip hop that could be found on a “Late Night Tales” compilation.

Having hit a wall trying to find material to sample he started writing full songs with the intention of ripping them apart to create something new. The idea evolved into a process of recording two separate works for each track and piecing them together into a much larger musical puzzle.

“”Bring The Beat Back” was the last track written for the album after realizing I needed a song that people could dance to,” Josh says. “I wanted to step away from some of the more house adjacent music I’d been working on in favor of a late 90’s ‘Big Beat’ sound. I wanted to make a track that could be played in both a club and a big rock festival.”

Prince Josh (Josh McIntyre) is a producer, songwriter and DJ based in Toronto Canada. He is best known as half of the electronic pop duo Prince Innocence as well as the Mexican Summer / Captured Tracks post-punk outfit Little Girls. He released his debut album The Joy (2020) to resounding critical acclaim followed by remixes and singles for Nervous Records, Kitsune and Italians Do It Better.

“Moths go through an incredible transformation during their life, and this insect became a symbol of change and resurrection. While his distinctive dreamy and hazy sound remains present, the record marks a sound shift towards downtempo and trip-hop” – HIGHCLOUDS

“McIntyre has a way with melody… ‘Moth’ is a perfectly pleasant way to let the minutes drift by” – ELECTRONIC SOUND MAGAZINE

“With flawless production, a somber aesthetic, and intricate melodies, this album delves deep into the shadows, capturing a dark magnum opus that’ll captivate you from the very beginning” – LAST DAY DEAF

“a stylistic pivot away from his signature lo-fi, hazy dance music to a more three-dimensional and crisp sound based on early trip-hop” – EXCLAIM

PRINCE JOSH is back with the the title track from his upcoming album Moth, set for release August 25th via Hand Drawn Dracula.

Having hit a wall trying to find material to sample, McIntyre started writing full songs with the intention of ripping them apart to create something new. The idea evolved into a process of recording two separate works for each track and piecing them together into a much larger musical puzzle. The track was written in the slow moving summer of the Arizona desert with limited resources for recording samples. Experimenting with marbles falling, a bowl filled with nails and water splashing, resulted in a score for a futuristic rave set in a desert wasteland.

“Time seemed to move slowly in the desert and I was able to focus and spend time on the tiniest of details in this track,” McIntyre explains. The song samples everything from marbles falling off a table, filling a bowl with nails and splashing water. Working entirely on my laptop I had to use the limited resources I had around me to create sounds. The end result sounds like a bad trip in a desert wasteland.”

After releasing a string of solo singles and mixes, PRINCE JOSH has cultivated an exciting sound combining elements of house, downtempo and global club sounds. His latest single (co-released on Paris’ Kitsune imprint), One Time ft. Orit, mixes electronic elements with Orit’s vocals as an introspective reflexion on relationships.

“Prince Josh’s first single since making his full-length solo debut with The Joy last year. The was named one of Exclaim!’s 25 Canadian Albums You Might Have Missed in 2020″ – EXCLAIM

“One Time’ originally started out as a trip-hop beat sent to me by Montreal based producer CFCF back in 2017. The track sat on my laptop until I rediscovered it this year and decided to sample a small loop towards the end. Once the track started to take shape, I immediately sent it to Toronto based singer Orit, who I’d been talking to over quarantine about working together. After our first session the song quickly started to take shape, and by the last session we knew we’d made something special: a song for before, during and after a night out.” – Prince Josh

“The lyrics were inspired by a turbulent relationship. Oftentimes when the dust of a failed relationship settles we try to outweigh the good with the bad. This song expresses a rejection of the good, ultimately deciding that the entire experience is worth erasing.” – Orit

PRINCE JOSH teams up with LA Timpa and Yves Jarvis on his new single ‘Blood’ streaming now via THE LINE OF BEST FIT SONG OF THE DAY and via CLASH MAGAZINE.

“they are two of my favourite contemporary artists. Yves Jarvis is my cousin and LA Timpa is a very close friend who I met during a crucial part of my life. I wanted to connect the dots between blood relatives and friends and what it means to be a ‘family.'” – Prince Josh

The trio carved an industrial trip-hop sound, whilst the vocals cut between Yves Jarvis’ lethargic drawl and Romy’s yearning falsetto. “What transpired that night is nothing short of a miracle, after editing the song down it was only fitting that I used an answering machine message I’d received from my other cousin Che Topsy (Yves Jarvis’ older brother) as the outro to the song.”

“Close collaborators LA Timpa and Yves Jarvis join proceedings, supplying creative inter-connections to take ‘Blood’ to a fresh space.” – CLASH
